The cuisine of la Taberna de Nino is at the cutting edge and stands out due to its new ideas, the rich portions and its competitive price. The new premises which compliments the restaurant in the Avenida de las Playas, is situated in a strategic position in El Varadero, the port area of La Tiñosa and the old part of the tourist centre.
The restaurant welcomes its clients in the main dining area where the charming tables are made from barrels, between the wines from their wine cellar and the wooden display cases on the bar which are full of fabulous ‘montaditos’ (type of snack or tapa). It is an ideal place to sample, as an aperitif, a selection of snacks and a glass of red wine.
Although the decoration is simple, the dining room is an ample pleasant area which is comfortable due to its attractive sturdy furnishings.
Nino takes a risk by offering such an extensive menu that has (without counting desserts) 91 different dishes. The main part of the menu is a varied ambitious selection of elaborate tapas. The most difficult thing is to decide what you want as when reading the menu you become greedy and want to order absolutely everything on offer: crunchy crayfish, avocado timbale, tuna and tomatoes, meat Carpaccio with parmesan cheese, fusion of tuna tartar with avocado….
The Grill, to complement
The idea of ordering a good tuna or fillet steak, entrecote or a T-bone steak, to go with your pinchos is an excellent option. There is also a more elaborate cuisine on offer, a favourite being local cherne fish with garlic, salmon papillote, or shoulder of lamb…
We have to mention the Nino’s dessert menu. Home made cheesecake and extraordinary tiramisu foam. With regard to the wine, as with the pinchos, the restaurant is well stocked with a full wine list at reasonable prices. Lastly, we have to mention that the service is as fast and efficient as the kitchen.
