By adapting the castle of San José de Arrecife include International Museum of Contemporary Art (MIAC), César Manrique culminated in 1976 a first and intense artistic stage in Lanzarote. The MIAC is part of the network of resorts on the island. The capital fortress, built in the late eighteenth century, occupies a singular place of arrecifeña bay. The building, designed by architect Claudio de Lisle, rises to power on a small cliff about twenty meters high. In its time, the castle fulfilled the role of watchdog for the constant attacks of Berber pirates. Before manriqueña intervention in the twentieth century, their role varied to military compound, mainly as a place of supply of ammunition.
Manrique transformed this space into a cultural center for art and gastronomic encounter. The entrance to the front door MIAC lifter rake introduces visitors to a beloved cultural itinerary. The Castle manor houses a permanent exhibition of sculptor Lanzarote Pancho Lasso, who lives with other exhibitions. The museum has a key role in the island's cultural life. Their regular activities bring the latest news expressive to the island. The vast rectangular hall of the castle, which will take you right back through the entrance gate, is paved on all four sides. A window to contemplation
The manriqueño seal is seen more clearly when you access the bottom of the castle. The old well of the fortress became a serpentine and neat white staircase, decorated with folk art. Manrique, faithful to a successful strategy, misleads on this gateway. In this journey, we can say that "stuns" the tourist with a curious detail, and on the ground floor, tripping over the impeccable panoramic Navy Arrecife. This surprising tactic reminds the Mirador del Río and also Jameos del Agua. The restaurant also comes along the north side of the castle, descending a staircase natural stone surrounded by exquisite gardens with traditional vegetation.
The Castle of San José restaurant focuses his artistic imprint. Input, fidelity to the location in which it operates. Who could say that this restaurant was not part of the eighteenth century castle built? Manrique succeeds. It seems so, it is a building of the XVIII, but was built in the mid-70's XX.
The elegant lounge options leverages its strategic location with a grateful glazed area facing the sea. The gastronomic corner is the wooden floor, ferns hanging from natural stone walls and an environmental music that goes along with the environment. The kitchen of the Castillo de San José, makes watchword of Lanzarote's cuisine, has resulted in pure conservatism that is not the height of the building or the contemplative proposal designed by César Manrique. Say your contribution is simply incorrect.
